Singng pretty much her entire life, Julie credits a large part of her music education to her piano instructor, Mrs. Trudy Strauss, who taught her not only piano, but piano performance, music theory and a love of classical music. She began voice study in earnest in her late 30s with Dr. Juliana Hoch, director of Loveland Opera Theater. She studied with Dr Hoch for 10 years, performing in recitals and she continues to perform solo from time-to-time.. She attended graduate classes in vocal pedagogy at the University of Northern Colorado and taught voice professionally for 10 years.
Her barbershop experience started when she was in her 20s and her love of the close harmonies has sustained her throughout her life. It's a passion that includes directing two successful Sweet Adelines International choruses and singing in numerous quartets. She is on the Sweet Adelines Region 8 education faculty where she coaches and teaches classes to other Sweet Adelines.
